New Skolt Saami learning materials are now public!

The Skolt Saami learning materials implemented by the Oummu rââst raaj – People cross the borders project have now been published! The project which operates in Finland under the Education and Culture Department of the Municipality of Inari, published Skolt Saami learning materials today on Tuesday 21st of October 2025 in honor of Sámi Language Week.

The Skolt Saami learning materials published by the project focusing on promotion of the Skolt Saami language and culture, are openly available to everyone. The materials can be found on the project's own page under the webpage of Inari Municipality. On Tuesday 21st of October 2025 at 15:00, a Finnish speaking presentation of the materials will be held via Teams for teachers and early childhood education staff who use the Skolt Saami language in their teaching. An invitation to the event has been sent directly to the target group by email. If you have not received an invitation but feel that the opportunity is necessary for you, please reach out to the contact person as soon as possible. The contact information can be found below.

The published learning materials are intended for Skolt Saami speaking early childhood education and comprehensive school education, as well as for those using either Norwegian or Finnish as the teaching language in Skolt Saami language teaching. The materials containing translations have therefore been translated into both Finnish and Norwegian. The materials can also be used for other non-commercial purposes, for example in private use.

The learning materials are divided into digital and physical materials. The physical materials are divided into memory games, books and booklets, and posters and other printed materials. The materials can be found at Skolt Saami learning materials - INARI.FI/EN, where you will find both links to the digital materials and printable files in PDF format.

The Oummu rââst raaj – People cross the borders project will be participating in the Inari municipality's Sámi language café on Thursday 23rd of October 2025 between 2 PM and 4 PM at the Ivalo Eduaction and Cultural Center Kaarre. The project will present and distribute some of the learning materials there. You can come and get acquainted with them on site or ask any questions you may have about the learning materials or the project's activities overall.
