Winter camp for the Skolt Saami 2026 "Gathering to the Winter Village"

The Skolt Saami winter camp, “Gathering to the Winter Village”, will be held on March 26–29, 2026 in Sevettijärvi, Inari, on the Finnish side of Sápmi.

Just as the Skolt Saami gathered in their winter settlements before, the winter camp brings members of the cross-border community together – to get to know and participate in the traditions of Skolt Saami culture and the way of annual cycle following life.

During the camp we will fish with traditional winter fishing methods, immerse ourselves in traditional crafts, catch up and exchange stories with friends and relatives old and new, as well as celebrate coming together and the life-bringing time of winter turning into spring. The camp has a warm, relaxed and communal atmosphere, to which we welcome members of the Skolt Saami community of all ages, across borders and from all walks of life. So, whether you are an active participant already or just starting your journey to explore your own cultural heritage, we hope to see you at the camp!
