Principles for a Safer Space

We follow the principles of a safer space in all events and occasions we organize, as well as in our work community. We aim to create a safer and more accepting atmosphere among our work community, partners and customers, where everyone can be themselves and feel comfortable, safe, accepted and equal. We also aim to lower the threshold for coming forward to the organizing party about uncomfortable behavior or treatment towards oneself or others. Below is a list of the principles of a safer space of the Oummu rââst raaj project, please follow them when participating in our events and lets create a friendly, safe and respectful atmosphere for all those present!

1. Respect everyone's space

Do not harass anyone physically or verbally. Do not touch another person without permission. You can articulate your own boundaries, both mental and physical, and others must respect them.

2. Don't speak in a mean or discriminatory way

Do not use discriminatory speech towards others or yourself. Do not mock, degrade or discriminate against others with your words or actions, and do not bully.

3. Give others space to be their own individual

Respect the identity of others and do not value them based on their age, appearance, gender, functional capacity, or sexual orientation. Do not comment on other's appearance, ability to function, or identity.

4. Don't assume

Don't make assumptions about others and be aware of your prejudices. For example, don't assume other person's gender, sexual orientation, interests, or abilities.

5. Communicate and give others space to communicate

Give others space to participate in discussions and don't override other people's opinions. Tell if you don't feel comfortable with something, and if someone points out your own behavior, accept it constructively.

6. Apologize

Apologize if you have offended someone.

7. Intervene

Intervene in discrimination and grievances with a low threshold. If you notice discriminatory or uncomfortable behavior towards others, you can also come and tell the camp organizers about it.

Following the principles of a safer space in our events and in the spaces we manage supports our sustainable development goals, such as reduced inequalities, good health and well-being, and gender equality.
