Inari Municipality's participatory budjeting in 2026 with theme of mental wellbeing

Participatory budgeting is used to support the municipal strategy as well as the implementation of the municipality’s wellbeing and safety plan. For this reason, a changing annual theme is defined for participatory budgeting.

In 2026, the theme of participatory budgeting is mental wellbeing. Mental wellbeing is one of the priority areas of the municipality’s Wellbeing and Safety Plan 2026–2029, and now residents are invited to propose ideas on how the mental wellbeing of people living in Inari could be supported.

Mental wellbeing can be influenced by many factors, such as having opportunities to take part in activities that matter to you, the ability to influence matters that concern you, and experiencing being heard, understood and accepted as you are. Good relationships, as well as a safe and smooth everyday life, are also important factors that support mental wellbeing. Art, culture and creative activities promote mental wellbeing.

In honour of Inari’s 150th anniversary year, the budget allocated for participatory budgeting in 2026 is 20,000 euros.

How would you support the mental wellbeing of Inari residents with 20,000 euros?

Submit your proposal between 16 February and 1 March on how the 20,000 euros should be used to support mental wellbeing!

In the first phase of participatory budgeting, proposals are requested on how the 20,000 euros or part of it should be used. Proposals can be submitted between 16 February and 1 March:

  • using the form available on the municipality’s website: Submit your proposal
  • Inari Municipality Participation Center (Rantatie 10 B, Ivalo)
  • Ivalo Main Library (Piiskuntie 4, Ivalo)
  • Inari Village Sami Library (Sajos, Menesjärventie 2 A, Inari)
  • the mobile library
  • proposals can also be submitted by sending a text message or WhatsApp message (message, voice message, photo, or video) to the number 040 643 4305.

Proposals can require either the entire 20,000 euros or just a part of it. Therefore, suggestions of various sizes are welcome. However, proposals requiring more than 20,000 euros will not proceed to the voting stage. Proposals must not create ongoing costs after implementation. In addition, the proposals must be carried out within the Municipality of Inari, fall within the municipality’s authority, and comply with all regulations and legislation.
