The Wellbeing and Safety Plan 2026–2029 has been prepared in collaboration between the municipality’s different sectors and various stakeholders. The plan includes goals and measures aimed at promoting residents’ wellbeing and everyday safety.

Based on the Wellbeing and Safety Report for 2021–2024, the key wellbeing and safety challenges identified among the residents of Inari are related to mental wellbeing, lifestyle habits, and everyday safety. The selected focus areas for the Wellbeing and Safety Plan 2026–2029 are:

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is influenced, among other things, by opportunities for selfexpression, participation in personally meaningful hobbies, the ability to influence matters concerning oneself, and experiences of being heard, understood, and accepted as one is. Healthy relationships and a safe, smooth everyday life are important factors that support mental wellbeing. Art, culture, library services, and creative activities also promote mental wellbeing. Various forms of addiction weaken mental wellbeing.

Healthy Lifestyles and Prevention of Overweight

Healthy lifestyles consist of a diverse and nutritious diet with regular meals, versatile physical activity in accordance with recommendations, sufficient rest and recovery, and social interaction. Alcohol, nicotine products, drugs, and different types of addictions have negative effects on health. Overweight is a risk factor for numerous diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Overweight can be prevented by supporting healthy lifestyle choices and mental wellbeing.

Everyday Safety

Everyday safety is a broad concept that includes, among other factors, physical safety in various environments and the prevention of accidents, digital safety, traffic safety, as well as psychological and social safety. Everyday safety is not merely the absence of crime or accidents, but a comprehensive state in which a person feels safe physically, mentally, and socially.

The focus areas of the Wellbeing and Safety Plan described above are interconnected and multifaceted. By addressing all these components, the municipality can best promote the wellbeing of its residents.

A draft version of the Wellbeing and Safety Plan is now available on the municipality’s website. Anyone may share their views on the plan via the link below or by sending an informal statement to the municipal registry at inari@inari.fi by 24.4.2026.
