Ä'vv Skolt Saami Museum organizes a visit to Valamo Monastery in Heinävesi, Finland

Ä'vv Skolt Saami Museum, a partner of Oummu rââst raaj project, is organizing a visit to the Valamo Monastery in Heinävesi.The visit and trips will last from Thursday to Monday, 18.09.25-22.09.25, and it includes free shared transportation starting from Neiden on the Norwegian side. Places for the visit are limited, so please register as soon as possible, but no later than 5 September 2025.
The program at Valamo Monastery includes:
- Various church events, such as Moleben or prayer service in Skolt Saami
- A review of the history of the Skolt Saami in words and pictures Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff
- Skolt Saami families, lineages and identity Irja Jefremoff
- Panel discussion Irja Jefremoff, Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff, Erkki Lumisalmi
- Skolt Saami quadrille dance performance
- Concert, Suõmmkar ensemble
Accommodation and costs related to the Monastery course are covered by the organisers. Accommodation in Oulu and Rovaniemi (breakfast included) as well as transportation are covered, too. Please note that meals (lunches and dinners) on the way to the Monastery and back are not covered and considered to be co-financing of the participants.
